Hidden slaves

HIDDEN SLAVES | child domestic workers from Daimon Xanthopoulos on Vimeo.
Worldwide, more than 15.5 million children are working as domestic worker. Almost half of them are under 15, according to statistics from the International Labour Organisation (ILO). Their work involves high risks, including long and exhausting days, the use of toxic cleaning and dangerous objects as knives and hot pans. Many of the children are also exposed to humiliation, physical or verbal abuse and they are easy victims of sexual abuse. The ILO defines child domestic work as one of the worst forms of child labour. The story of Tanja (9) from Bangladesh is the first in a serie of stories on the hidden slavery on children, happening today. With their stories I try to raise awareness on the issue that seems harmless to many people. Daimon Xanthopoulos | daimon.nl
